Ryan '22

Hello everyone, my name is Ryan Agan and I am honored to have been selected as a recipient of the BAC Scholarship for 2022. I am currently in my first year at Purdue University, majoring in Professional Flight. My experiences beginning flight training have been incredible and I have greatly enjoyed my time here so far. I have definitely made the most of my time here by being involved in many clubs and organizations on campus. Through some of my clubs, I have been able to network and meet many professionals within the aviation industry, while learning more about my future career. I have also been able to make many friends from all over the country and the world.

I would like to say thank you to Kevin Jones and all of the BAC Scholarship Fund donors. I am very grateful for receiving this scholarship. It goes a long way towards helping myself and others to be able to cover some of the costs associated with going to college. Boiler Up!

K'Shayla '20

My name is K'Shayla and my first year at UNC-Chapel Hill was good! My first semester was a lot more difficult than my second semester due to being sent home after the first two weeks. I was able to spend the entire second semester on campus and had some in-person classes that made things more bearable.

I would like to express my gratitude to all the donors that contributed to the scholarship. This has been one of the most challenging, unorthodox school years ever. It was made more manageable knowing that many of my expenses were able to be covered with everyone's help. GO HEELS!

My name is Zaniya and my first year at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is going great! As a student in the University Honors Program, I am majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Political Science.

Thus far, I have enjoyed my time at NCCU, where I have joined clubs and obtained different leadership roles. In particular, I have become a writing tutor at the Writing Center, where I assist students with drafting their papers and help them improve their writing skills. I have also become a member of clubs around campus as a way to network with my peers and professors.

I am honored to have been selected as a recipient of the 2019 BAC Scholarship. Thank you for your generous support and donations, which has allowed me to be a first-generation college student and afforded me the opportunity to reach my educational goals.

Sincerely,

Zaniya Caine

Hello everyone, my name is Haley Hiatt and I was a recipient of the 2019 BAC scholarship. I am currently in my freshman year at the UNC Wilmington where I am pursuing a degree in Communication Studies. I would like to say thank you to the donors of this scholarship for supporting and investing in my education. I absolutely love this school and I am beyond thankful for the donors that helped make this a reality for me.

My first semester has been absolutely amazing, and I have fallen in love with UNCW. I am involved in several organizations on campus including the Communication Studies Society and campus ministries. My classes are going well and I am on track to earn a 4.0 GPA and I am also in the process of applying to be a Student Ambassador. Once again, thank you to the donors of the BAC scholarship for helping ease the financial burden and for giving me the opportunity to attend my dream school!

Omar '19

Omar's first year of college at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) is off to a great and busy start!

Omar is now a collegiate student-athlete after he successfully "walked-on" to ECSU's football team. Omar recently returned home to Rocky Mount with his team to compete in the annual Down East Viking Classic.

Here he is with his mom & dad who may miss him an awful lot but are really enjoying their newfound grocery surplus :)

Keep up the great work, Omar!

Maggie '19

I am Magnolia Lewis, one of the BAC Scholarship recipients for 2019. Currently, I am attending Western Carolina University with the intention of obtaining an English Degree so that I can pursue a career in education or publishing.

I have gone hiking to waterfalls and even a nearby plane crash but my favorite thing about Western Carolina University is the fact that I can walk outside of my dorm and become completely captivated by the beauty around campus.

I would have never been able to experience these things the way that I have if it weren’t for the BAC Scholarship that I received this past school year.

I am forever grateful for your generous gift towards my education. It is because of all of you that I have been able to learn not only more about my field of study or the world around me but myself as I discover how I can better the world around me in the future.

Solomon '18

I’m Solomon Gonzalez and I am one of 2018's BAC Scholarship recipients. I am currently at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut where I plan to pursue a major in the field of STEM (although I am not sure about which major, I am interested in biomedical engineering).

I have loved my time here so far. I have been given the opportunity to try many new things and meet many interesting people from around the world who I have learned a lot from. I am a member of the Hispanic and Afro-American communities at Yale. They have welcomed me with open arms to help me feel comfortable here and they have taught me what it means to have family whenever I need a shoulder to lean on.

Coming up here to the New England area, I have noticed the increased prices of many things compared to how much things were in North Carolina. Thus, this is why I am more grateful for Kevin Jones and all the donors who contributed. I was able to purchase everything that I needed for classes using the amount that I was gifted. I was well prepared, making my overall transition into college that much easier.

Thanks again to all of those who helped make it possible!

Emma '18

In 2018's graduating class, there were 14 BAC Scholars --- but only 13 went off to college in the fall.

Just days away from her high school graduation and months away from attending Meredith College, Emma Bailey was in a terrible car accident. She escaped the crash with only a few scratches but sustained injuries that left her paralyzed from the chest area, down.

Through it all, Emma has not allowed the events of that day to keep her from her goals. Armed with her supportive family and her unwavering faith in God, Emma has been a relentless warrior in physical therapy and has made miraculous progress over the past year.

Despite the brief detour, Emma will be attending Meredith College, as originally planned --- in August 2019!

Congratulations Emma!

Naudia '18

My name is Naudia Brown and I am a first-year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  I am currently undecided about my major but that hasn't taken anything away from my college experience.  Carolina has been great.  I am a member of Kamikazi Hip Hop Dance Team, V.I.P Praise Dance Team, and Every Nation Campus (ENC),  which is a non-denominational church group.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of the donors who selflessly made contributions towards my college education and the educations of the other BAC Scholarship recipients. My family and I greatly appreciate your investment towards my future since I am a first generation college student and college is very expensive.

Your donations ensured that I could afford my books, which helped me earn a spot on the Dean's List with a 3.74 GPA.  I also received the Renwick Award for having a 3.2 or higher GPA.

Thank you once again!  I hope that you all will continue making donations to BAC and spreading the word to your family and friends to make donations as well.

Anna Shaye '18

Hello everyone, my name is Anna Shaye Thompson and I was a 2018 recipient of the BAC Scholarship. I am currently attending Charleston Southern University and pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.

Thank you so much to the donors of the organization for being gracious enough to provide a way to help me pursue my dreams. Your generous donations helped me to buy books for my whole freshman year!

I am involved with many things on campus such as the women's soccer team where we have participated in community service activities such as serving breakfast to pastors at the North Charleston Coliseum and working the gate at football games. I am also involved with a student ministry group called Elevate and participate in athlete's Bible study.

I have fallen in love with the Charleston, South Carolina area and my school. Thank you so much again for providing your donations so that students like me can go to college with less of a financial burden.

Fayetteville State University is a great campus with some pretty amazing people. In addition to making the Dean's List, I have made a lot of new friends, learned a ton of new things and have really enjoyed the sense of family that comes along with the HBCU experience.

Again I want to thank the donors who make this possible every year as well as Kevin Jones for his commitment to opportunity through education.

Hello everyone, my name is Brooke Bryant and I was honored to be chosen as a BAC Scholarship recipient in 2018. Currently, I am a Mountaineer at Appalachian State and I am loving every minute in the "High Country". At Appalachian, I have formed many close bonds and already learned so much.

One of my favorite experiences so far has been becoming a news reporter for Appalachian's student newspaper, "The Appalachian". I have written several stories that have been published either in paper, online or both. I am also a member of App Educators and the Student Yosef Club.

I am so blessed to be able to officially start my journey to becoming a high school English teacher and I only hope that I can impact a student in the way that my teachers, Kevin Jones and EVERY SUPPORTER of this scholarship has. Thank you again!

Greetings to all! My name is Tatyana Dunn and I was lucky enough to receive the BAC Scholarship. I am currently a freshman attending North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham, NC.

First, I would like to thank Mr. Kevin Jones for being the founder of this organization and making my transition into college much easier. I would also like to give a BIG THANK YOU to each and every donor for supporting this scholarship fund and helping send kids like myself to college. I was accepted into the Aspiring Eagles Academy at NCCU which allowed me to begin my college career in the summer. The program allowed me to earn 8 credit hours, take team bonding trips, experience new religious opportunities and most importantly, begin my college career with a 4.0 GPA.

All of my classes are going extremely well. I have joined other organizations on campus this year including the Biology Society, STEM Promise and the WPI Gospel Choir. I am very excited what the future holds for me and thanks once again to all of the supporters. You are truly making a difference so please keep this scholarship going!

Jernequa '17

Jernequa is having a great time at Winston-Salem State University!

She is halfway through her pursuit of a degree in Justice Studies where she intends on using her degree to help children --- a goal of hers long before she got to college.

Jernequa recently took a well deserved break from her studies to catch a basketball game with her mom and dad.

We look forward to the great things to come from this young lady in the future!

Hello everyone! My name is Karina Garcia and I am truly blessed to have received BAC's CHEMO Scholarship in 2017. I am currently attending Nash Community College working on the pre-requisites required for my Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

I feel that this scholarship was sent from GOD because it came at a very tough time for my family as my mom had just been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Karina '17

Being the first in my family to attend college, I thought that paying my college tuition would be difficult but thanks to the BAC Scholarship Fund, my first year has been stress free and all I've had to focus on was my work since my college tuition was covered.

I give thanks to all of the kindhearted donors who make it possible not only for me but for many others to attend college.

Thank you for helping us out.

-Karina

Ariel '17

As one of the recipients of the 2017 BAC Scholarship, I would like to say how thankful and extremely appreciative I am to Kevin Jones and all of the donors who cared enough to invest in my education. College can get very expensive and it is the people who support these types of scholarships that really make a difference. With the help of this scholarship I was able to attend Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) without having to worry about financial issues.

During my first year at WSSU I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and I am getting the chance to gain more knowledge & insight into my career path. In addition to joining the WSSU Psychology Club, I have also joined the University Choir and the WSSU Singing Divas. I love being a part of these organizations because they give me the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone while meeting and connecting with new & different people.

The BAC Scholarship made a big financial impact and I wouldn't have been able to transition from high school to college so easily without it. I cannot thank everyone enough for making this scholarship possible.

-Ariel

Rodolfo '17

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to the BAC Scholarship Fund. My name is Rodolfo Salazar and I received one of the many 2017 BAC Scholarships. I am currently half way through my first year at Stanford University and because of the BAC Scholarship, I am able to work less hours which gives me the opportunity to explore as many majors and campus organizations as possible.

I have explored organizations focused on community service, poverty, ethnic studies and issues faced by the LGBT community --- all of which have become central to my understanding of myself and my passions.

I have decided to major in either "Political Science" or "Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity" in order to help improve our education systems and open up more opportunities to low-income and first generation students.

The BAC Scholarship has helped me so much in deciding how I can most effectively help others in our community. I want to thank everyone again for donating and encourage y'all to continue donating so that others like me can continue to explore and maximize their opportunities.

Hi, my name is Sarah Marlowe and I am currently attending Nash Community College where I just finished my first semester! I'm taking prerequisites for the nursing program, which I'll hopefully start next fall. This scholarship has given me the opportunity to take the classes needed for this program and has made me stress free because I haven't had to take out loans.

I don't know what I would've done without this scholarship and the donors who contributed to it. I am so thankful and blessed to have received it!

-Sarah

Hello everyone! My first year at Fayetteville State has been one filled with so many opportunities. I am in the Student Government Association, I won Miss Freshman, and I have been given the wonderful opportunity to study abroad in Spain next summer!

None of this would be possible if it weren't for the gracious donors and sponsors of the BAC Scholarship Fund.

The BAC Scholarship has helped me have a smooth transition into the college life. One day I will return the favor and donate so that someone can have the same --- or an even better college experience than me.

Once again thank you so much to Kevin Jones and those who donated to make the 2017 BAC Scholarships possible!

Hey y'all! I am beyond blessed to have received the BAC Scholarship in 2016! I am at UNC Chapel Hill and I am involved in several organizations including Rams Club, Super Cooper's College Buddies, and CRU. Without the help of all of the donors, I would not have been able to afford college necessities such as a meal plan and books. The BAC Scholarship Fund makes a HUGE impact on college finances and I encourage everyone to make a donation to help seniors achieve their dream of going to college. Thank you again and GO HEELS!

-Magan

As a recipient of the BAC Scholarship, I would like to sincerely thank this extraordinary organization for investing in my education and college experience.

Had it not been for you all, I would not be here at Wake Forest working toward a career in dentistry. I truly appreciate you helping me continue my education.

So far, my college experience has been challenging, yet rewarding. I have taken some of the hardest courses offered to freshmen while also being involved in extracurricular activities such as the Pre-Dental Student Association and Wake Forest Cheerleading.

Thank you so much for affording me the opportunity to attend this great school. Your donation made all the difference in the world!

The BAC Scholarship provided me with a portion of the funds to further my education at a top 30 school in Wake Forest University. There's no other college or university I would rather attend. I love it here! I am eternally grateful for this opportunity to represent the BAC Scholarship Fund. I am currently taking pre-requisites to apply to the business school sophomore year. Please keep me in your prayers.

The picture I chose to present to you is of the women's varsity basketball team with my friends and I mixed in. During my free time, my friends and I play on the scout team. We're paid in athletic gear and Chipotle gift cards! It's pretty great! It's something I find enjoyment in and it's a great stress reliever. Again, thank you so much for your support. Go Deacs!
