All-Conference

Sophomore year was quite a success for Myia!

In addition to the success that she has had as a member of Appalachian State's Track & Field team, Myia was recently recognized by the Sun Belt Conference for her outstanding work in the classroom.

Myia maintained a GPA of 3.00 - 3.49 for the entire 2018-19 year --- which is no surprise to us but it's always good to see hard work pay off!

Congratulations Myia!

Summer in Singapore

Myia will be wrapping up her Senior year in Singapore!

Myia recently found out that she was one of two students from her school to be awarded the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

After applying for the super competitive scholarship three times, Myia finally got it. She is "confident" and "motivated" as she heads overseas to begin her Public relations internship.

Myia has done what she showed up to do 4 years ago in Boone!

Myia graduated with ha Bachelor's degree in Communication/Public Relations and has decided that she will come back home where she will work with a local non-profit focused on community transformation and bringing Christ-centered solutions to people in crisis, transition and in need.

Be Light

Since graduation, Myia has started serving with a purpose.

Shortly after returning home, Myia founded Be Light Candle RE which is a non-profit organization that raises money to help create educational programming as well as fight homelessness & food insecurity through the production of high quality, hand-made candles.

As part of her outreach, Myia has also began teaching candle making classes which has helped create jobs and opportunities for women locally and abroad. She can be seen in this photo teaching a candle making class in Kenya.
