SCHOLAR UPDATES

More from 2015 BAC Scholar, Jessica Martinez

"Thank you all for being an example to follow and taking the initiative to make a difference in our community..."

Thanks BAC!

I am a proud recipient of the 2015 BAC Scholarship! I would like to take the time to thank every donor who made a contribution to this fund, and to encourage you to continue giving generously. This scholarship has the power to positively impact the lives of many young people who are pursuing their dreams.

I am currently a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, pursuing a major in Political Science. I am continuously seeking opportunities to serve others. Giving selflessly and expecting nothing in return is a great thing that I have been able to experience.

Thank you all for being an example to follow and taking the initiative to make a difference in our community. Not only do scholars receive financial help from the BACSF, but we are also provided with a great mentor who guides us through the difficulties presented to us in college.

I am eager to watch the BAC Scholarship Fund grow and be an aid for many more students. Please consider making a contribution which will assist deserving students in achieving their goal of attending and being successful in college. Every little amount counts!

Leadership!

I have successfully completed my third semester at UNC Charlotte! This semester has been the most important to me because I was able to identify my passion in wanting to make a difference with education in the lives of children, and within education policies.

On campus, I co-founded National Network of Enlightened Women's UNC-Charlotte chapter and recently graduated from Leadership Fellows; a 10 week leadership program where I was one of 64 students selected out of more than 200!

Thank you for all of your support during this journey that has just begun. I am very grateful and I thank God for the loving and caring heart he has given you. The BAC Scholarship Fund is something far greater than a financial contribution to our education. It's the mentorship and the selflessness of the donors in our communities that mean the most. I am excited to see the BAC Scholarship grow and reach the lives of many students who are in search of a place to leave their fingerprints. I have certainly found a place to leave mine.

DC Livin'

Hard to believe it has been almost 4 years since we awarded Jessica one of our BAC Scholarships.

She has had an amazing college journey and thanks to connections made through BACSF, Jessica is spending the first semester of her senior year as an intern in Washington, D.C. with the US Department of Education!

She is working in the Department's Office of Innovation and says that it has been an eye opening experience.

Kevin and his wife, Talia had a chance to catch up with Jessica during a gala at the National Building Museum in D.C..
